What is Google Play closed testing and why do I need it?
Google Play closed testing is a testing track in Google Play Console that allows developers to release an app to a limited, invited group of testers before making it publicly available. Google requires certain newly created developer accounts to complete a closed testing period before they can apply for production access — the ability to publish apps publicly on the Play Store. Learn more in our guide to the 12-tester, 14-day requirement.
How many testers do I need for Google Play production access?
Google requires at least 12 testers to be actively opted in to the closed testing track. Simply inviting testers is not sufficient — each tester must complete the opt-in process so they appear as active in Google Play Console. See our detailed guide on the 12-tester requirement for more information.
How long does the closed testing period need to last?
Google requires the closed testing track to run for a minimum of 14 continuous days with at least 12 opted-in testers. The 14-day period begins once testers have opted in and the testing track is active — not just from when you create the track. Read more in our guide to the 14-day testing requirement.
What packages does SAMFA Digital offer?
SAMFA Digital offers three packages, all including a 14-day testing cycle:
• Starter – $10: 12 testers
• Growth – $50: 16 testers, plus feedback items and priority support
• Scale – $100: 20 testers, plus detailed feedback and testing summary
Does completing the testing guarantee production access?
No. Production access is granted solely by Google at their discretion. Meeting the closed testing requirements makes you eligible to apply, but Google reviews additional factors including app quality, policy compliance, metadata accuracy, and developer account history. SAMFA Digital cannot guarantee production access. See our guide on common reasons applications may receive additional review.
